I am in the process of having McGowan put a barrel on my 700ml for a smokeless conversion. When I started down this road I thought I needed a .452 barrel since I am planning on smooth sizing the bullet and shooting bullet to bore. But now after going down this rabbit hole should I have the barrel 450/458? or stick with 442/452? Thanks in advance.

It is good to have an option for those that still want to convert the old Remington 700 ML. Everyone else has abandoned them.

You can also shoot 10mm (.400 cal) 200 grain bullets in it with the Harvester 4540B High Pressure sabots using 85 grains of H4895 at about 2700 fps. I like the TC .400 bullets. You will be getting more energy than a 30-06 with this combination, but it may not be quite as accurate as the smooth sized bullets.

I ended up going with the 1x22 twist after talking to Dennis at Fury asking him which twist he preferred for his 250/275gr bullets.
I did a final scope check yesterday morning with my 2 McRem .45s. They both have 1:22 .458 McGowen barrels. One is a 6 land and the other is an 8 land. I put (6) 250 gr Barnes T-EZs into a ragged 7/8" group 3" high dead center at 100 yards. Three shots from each gun alternating guns. I think I am ready for deer season in 2 weeks.
