I'm an old guy, but I get out into the woods daily checking hog traps and such. I do the daily thing just to make me get my butt up out of a recliner and keep moving, and as such I'm up really early every day and out of the house by sunrise. Occasionally I'm out there in the middle of the night too....watching for hogs to pop.
I have found that with my shooting and hunting hobbies, I have accumulated probably too many guns for an average guy. I have lots of lever actions...from 73' Winchesters, 92' Winchesters, and newer stuff and just pick up whatever grabs my attention when leaving the house.
I've owned a lot of bolt actions over the years, but when I decide to go deer hunting, it's usually one of the Rugers. The shiny super pretty rifles don't interest me much anymore...I just want something that shoots where it should, and a couple of Rugers in 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmore both shoot under an inch. They might not be the prettiest, but they are virtually tools of the trade !

One of my favorite long guns for the last 20 years has been my Encore, 26" .280 Remington, SS. I drew a special Elk Hunt in Oklahoma, Rifle, centerfire only so I couldn't use my favorite gun at the time, a Remington XP100, Custom 284 Winchester. I had to do some research and decided to get a .280. My late uncle had a 7mm Express when I was growing up and worked on his farm. I got to shoot it some and was amazed at the accuracy and power in the Remington Action. I got some dies and started working on the most accurate load for this out to 400 yards. I settled on the 140 grain Accubond, and Varget powder. I put a new Burris 4x16 Ballistic Plex and practiced from July to December when my hunt took place.
With snow, sleet and cold wind I found this bull the second day of a 3 day hunt. I have used this Encore for a few more deer. I have loaned it to several friends for Antelope, Mule Deer and Whitetail hunts and it has done well. It will always be on my go-to list for last minute trips if I can use my pistols.
Mike

Commercial ‘98 Mauser (FN 1954) came to me in 1975 as a much used Buhlmiller (sp?) barreled .257 AI w a K6 Weaver mounted via Buehler rings and bases. The stock was very plain w flat topped “checkering”.

It now sports a Douglas Air Gauged .30-06 barrel, Leupold 3-9 Vari-X ll, & Timney trigger. It has a much nicer original FN stock. Chosen load is a 150 gr Nosler Partitions pushed by IMR 4895 for deer.

I have several other CF rifles that I like but this is my “Old Reliable”.

This was my very first gun build I bought a kit and several other parts to assemble this weapon never fired a modern firearm like this before it’s chambered in 556 and it’s right on out the 200 yards very happy with this Gun

Winchester Model 70 - Post '64. Many Christmases ago the boys took the gun and married it to a Boyd stock that they bought. Deer on side is laser engraved. It has taken many deer and elk until we switched to ML season. It may pull another deer as I put in for 2nd draw, rifle season and for elk ML season on 2nd draw. Got my fingers crossed.winchester2.jpg

I have four centerfire rifles that I love. Favorite is a Ruger No. 1 RSI International with custom manlicher stock in 7X57 Mauser. Leupold vari x 2 compact 2-7x28 scope (I think) mind is a terrible thing to waste. Definitely my lucky gun. Only sees dry weather because my left handed Savage Weather Warrior in 7mm08 goes out in rain. Post photos later or tomorrow.
As promised photos of number 1, weather warrior and my newest set-up a rimfire stainless 10/22 with mannlicher stock and Leupold freedom scope. Also has a bx trigger drop in.
