This is the first Whitetail I have shot in 30 years. I normally hunt Mule deer but it looks like CWD may have severely impacted the Mulies where I hunt. 7 hours of hunting and saw 1 small fork and a doe with fawns. Normally would have seen 18 -25 each day. Saw about 20 Whitetail. Took this buck at 264 yds with a smokeless muzzle-loader I put together using a Savage short action and a .45cal brux barrel from Arrowhead. Load is IMR4198 pushing a 200 grain 40cal Hornady XTP bullet in a Harvester 45/40 ribbed sabot at 2555 fps. Complete pass through. Deer went about 10 yds and fell over.

That’s a Dandy! I was wandering how those .40 cal xtps would preform.

Nice animal there. I see at least four broken/chipped tines and that grey face makes me think he's got some miles on him. What a score for you. Congrats!

Heck of a nice deer and shot. Congrats. Xtp's are a deadly bullet. My boy took his first deer last year using a .40 180 grain xtp outta my cva optima.
