Gonna be 50 degrees in the morning     Great weather for shooting! I went Tues morning, but then got a call that my mom was getting put in the hospital, so after only 7 shots, I had to pack it up :( so hopefully I can get some shooting time tomorrow before I head to the hospital.

nice and cool! And the best part, no stinkin skeeters! Thats why I went out early this morning, it was beautiful and not one skeeter.

Hope you mom is doing ok, nothing to serious?

Headed up to 11,500ft for a make believe hunt. See if I can shoot an elk with my camera.

Hope your mom is ok.

Thanks Jon. They are running tests. She had extreme upper abdominal pain & has been sick with IBS for years. They found a spot on her liver & want to rule out cancer. So that's where we are for now. Had a cat scan, blood tests, & an MRI tonite. Hope to know what they are thinking tomorrow.

Also you are right.....no skeeters & no horse / deer flies!

Have fun Pete. I'd suffocate at that altitude!

Severe upper abdominal pain can be a gall bladder problem or worse, acute pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is some very nasty stuff. I spent 15 days in the hospital (some of it in intensive care) with it.
I hope it's just a gallstone and not anything to do with cancer.

Greg,

Hope your mom is doing better and the docs didn't find anything really serious. Keep us posted and I'm sure some thoughts and prayers are going in her direction.

Ray

I really appreciate that Ray. They were pretty sure that it was cancer this morning, but after 2 specialists reviewed her MRI, they determined that she has an abscess on her liver & they are going to start draining it this evening & then give heavy duty antibiotics, which due to her problems will make her sick. But at least for now they are saying that it is not cancer :)

Ok......made it to the range with the Knight. Found two good loads, but I'm going back in the morning as I'm just not satisfied yet.

The Bloodline .458/220 in the Knight sabot was grouping at around 2 inches with 110 grains of BH209. I jumped her up to 120 grains, pulled the first shot & then shot a 3 shot 7/8" group at 100 yards. This may be my hunting load......we'll see.

The other one worth mentioning is the big .458/325 FTX. I shot these with an orange MMP sabot & 110 grains. 1 1/4" at 100 yards.

I am currently disappointed in the Barnes 250's but I'll keep working with them.

Looks like a good start with a new gun. i'm sure you won't be happy until it's one big hole.

Those will easily do for hunting Pete, but you are right. One big hole is always preferred. I'm going back in the morning. Gonna get down to 46 degrees :)  I have a few Speer's that I want to play with yet.

:D

Greg,
That second target takes the cake in my book. You have a good combo of components there. I would use it for hunting. 8)
Glad to hear that your mom can be treated with drugs instead of radiation therapy. She'll remain in our thoughts and prayers until she's on the road to recovery.

Ray............;)

Thanks so much Ray!!! They drained 90cc's of infection from inside of her liver tonite & are pumping her full of antibiotics. Still, as you said, so much better than cancer treatments.

That big FTX has shot great in every gun I've tried it in. Same with the 44/265 FTX. I know some guys don't really like them, but they must be one of the most consistently uniform bullets made.

I think that 325 grain would be a hammer on a Whitetail & still be great for Elk & Bear.

Awesome range report GregK !  That 120 load behind a 220 would be deadly on deer

Any problem seating the bullet with the MMP sabots :?:

p.s. I wish your mother wellness.

 Thanks Marty.

I really like the size & weight of that Bloodline. They start a bit stiff but nothing that you wish you hadn't done. They seat just fine. I tried loading one in a black crush rib & wished that I hadn't! The only thing I'm not crazy about with the Bloodlines is that I have to order them.

Got back out this morning because I was annoyed that I couldn't get better than 2 inch groups with the Barnes TEZ 250 flat base bullets. I dumped their blue sabot & switched to the Harvester EZ load black sabots & this is the result.

Shot 1 was a cold/clean barrel.
