I have a Green Mountain Long Range Hunter barrel in. 50 caliber.
To be slugged when the barrel is shortened to Scout Rifle length, hopefully sometime soon.

Shooting bullets, as opposed to patched balls is totally new to me.

In all likelihood I will end up with an Accurate Molds iron mold somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-325 grains, cast in pure lead, with a big fat wide meplat.

What do I need to know about lubrisizing the bullets? Brand of sizer. Size of the die to keep the bullet on top of the powder charge during strenuous activity? Type of lubricant? Brand of lubricant?

And, anything I haven't thought of 'cause I don't know squat about shooting bullets?

Thanks,
Bruce

Accurate molds are great molds and usually drop the bullet at the requested size, then all you need to do is find a good bullet lube and pan lube.

Right now I use a .457 lee mold with a lee .452 bullet sizer. I cast my bullets then pan lube in my home made lube then run them thru my .452 sizer. In my .45 LRH barrel the bullet is easy to start but doesn't just fall down the barrel. After sizing, my bullets actually come out at .451.5.

Of course this is for a .45 not a .50 but the concept is still the same.

First off a 300gr soft lead bullet in 50cal is VERY light for caliber and probably a poor choice for a 1-28 twist also. Something around 400gr would be a better starting point. I would try something from Dan at Bullshop first before settling on a mold. I think he had some conicals right around 400gr and they are fairly cheap.

Im dont know much about lube sizers but if you lube then size there are many options. Everything from a cheap Lee lube sizer to a NOE sizer with replaceable bushings.

Lee offers them in custom sizes for around $40 or you can get a .501 and polish it out yourself. Those are around $25 or less

Not for nothing but a inexpensive Lee mold 2- cav (REAL) in my 45-50-54 cal work great for me as cast in pure lead and for under $35.00 will get you started and when your done sell it or shelf it . In my case I sold a few and then had to replace them ,so ignore the sell and just keep em /Ed

I agree with GM54-120, A 300-325 Grain Bullet is on the Light Side for these 1:28 Twists 50 Cals, that is gonna be an AWFULLY Short Bullet for that Caliber/Twist Rate, I would go NO LESS than a 400 Grain Bullet.

I own MANY Accurate Bullet Molds, His Steel being my absolute Favorite.

Remember when ordering an Accurate Mold that he has a +/- Tolerance window of .002, You want to go with his + Tolerance

Example: Say you need a .502 FOR SURE, Use .502 and His + Tolerance when ordering, This GAURANTEES that the Bullet will be at least .502, but it can end up being as Large as .504
