I messaged BPI this question and never got a reply. Anyone know the minimum velocity for reliable expansion of a 300 grain Powerbelt Aerolite? I’ve got a Leupold VX5 HD 2-10x42 on my CVA Accura MR and shoot 100 grains BH209 with a 300 grain PB Aerolite.

At 200 yards my velocity is about 1100 FPS with 780 lbs KE. If the opportunity arises I can dial my MOA turret and drop one in on a whitetail, I just want to make sure I have enough velocity for the PB to expand properly.

I dont believe that 'enough velocity' is ever a problem with PBs. Usually its a case of too much velocity. They claim its pure lead with a copper plating. I wish someone with a hardness tester would test a few dozen and see what they get. I think 1100fps is right in the ideal range for PBs. That makes it too fast, imho, at nearer targets.
