From muzzle to bottles is 25 yard. Powder charge is 50 grain Blackhorn

The bullet was caught by the sixth bottle, after passing through the carpet, plywood, and five bottles.

Probably on impact the sleeve was forced back.

Yeah looking at it beside the other test bullet its easier to make out the rifling marks in the sleeve. Still a shame it didn't open even a tiny bit.

Muzzle Velocity of that weight bullet and charge is around 1250fps.

I wonder what a Speer 270grn deep curl would mushroom like at that velocity just thinking of a light recoil short range deer anchor for a young shooter

This is what the 270gr DCSP looked like after doing a test very similar to ronlaughlin. Only I was using 100gr volume of Bh209 and I was shooting at 100yds.

Have had great blood trails but all deer have been 60yrds or closer and broadside (complete pass thru). Also, with 100gr volume of Bh209 you're gonna feel it a little.

Seems like a Barnes xpb, or tac-xp 185g, or 225g would work better, than the 270g Speer, with a low recoil load of 50, or 60 grain.
