Called Buffalo Arms Co. on Monday to find out where the 50lbs of 40-1 alloy I ordered might be. Found out that they shipped it via USPS, but USPS didn't send me a tracking number like they were supposed to. Got a notice in my box yesterday, picked up the alloy today. The box was actually all in one piece, and all of the alloy was there!

Yesterday the thermometer rose above zero for the first time in a week! So.... I spent the afternoon getting snow off our driveway (.3 miles long, 250 feet of vertical) and away from critical parts of the house.... in preparation for today's snow storm. So far we have about 4 inches of new snow. Right now it's snowing like mad, with up to 9 more inches snow supposed to fall tonight. Based on The Weather Channel's cloud cover imagery, there are two more storms out in the Pacific, moving in behind this one. Lookin' like me 'n the tractor are gonna be spending some quality time together... Yestereday afternoon she was a little cranky about starting - temp was about zero, though, I hadn't started her up for more than a week, and the temps were minus 20 to minus 39 for most of that time - so I had to jump her with the truck. Hopefully she was just pouting from neglect, and will start right up every time I need her for the rest of the winter.

Take some time and give it a good going over.. What color did you go with ?
Deff give it a thorough going over. Mark Woodman told me that the front sling mount backing plate was stripped out in my stock & that had I hooked a sling to it I wouldn't have made it far before it pulled right out & down my new gun would have gone. Also the Kick Ez recoil pad had started to deform & separate from the backing plate on its own. Fortunately, he got them to send him a new one, but still..... thats some BS considering thats the most expensive recoil pad they have.

Wasn’t gonna say anything negative on Boyd’s stocks but why not. Maybe it’s just my luck but anyway, my omega stock is gonna need some repair. I’ve noticed a crack from the very front down to the sling swivel eye. I’ve got a good plan for repair and I’m sure it will be fine. Out of the last 3 stocks I have gotten only 1 that was acceptable. They aren’t what they use to be..

This whole week has been involved with making "Golden Powder" which is the only black powder substitute I know of that you can actually make yourself. Supposedly it turns golden if you heat it long enough but mine is usually slate grey. Power on the level of BH209 and half the residue of BP, with that being a lot easier to clean. The main ingredient (Actually Vitamin C) costs about $12 a pound where everything else is about half that.

I started making this when I discovered that 60% of Pyrodex is actually just Black Powder.

I weighed out some T7 FFG charges to shoot from my 54 cal LK-93. By volume 90,100,and 110 grains. Got all the goodies together for when it warms a little. For Barnes Expanders 325 grains.
I have that same rifle. I use 70 grains of my own stuff and Lee R.E.A.L. bullets. Occasionally 30 grains with a PRB as thats all I can use with the 1-28 twist these things have. I actually have no experience with Sabots as of yet.

I had a hell of a time getting the nipple out of that to clean it until the tool (that I previously did not know existed) came with a model I bought new from Knight because it was on a deep sale

I hope it didn’t appear that I was trashing Boyd’s stocks. I’ve bought a cpl that were just fine, no quality control issues at all & I’ve bought a cpl others that should not have been sold as they were. For the money, I’ll continue to buy them.

Nope not at all, I’ve bought quite a few in years past and they are excellent. Just seems the last few years I’ve had issues.. I know with anything we buy there are gonna be some Quality Control issues.. I’ll also continue to purchase from them.
