Lucky enough to catch another nice buck while out with my Alexander Henry double rifle. Rifle built in 1866.
350gr PP HP over 90gr OE. 50yds.

Last photo shows case and a buck from a few years ago.

Rick, I bet you feel good all over, congrats.

The buck is great thou not a potato (harvest) ,beautiful looking wood and sure would like to see more photos .An exceptional piece of history in a condition not often seen being used as intended (at least by me)/Ed

You pictured that rifle once before and I thought then it was a super nice piece, but shown with that wooden case and leather fixtures just makes it all the more special.

I admire all those who have become caretakers for historic firearms, and especially those that take those weapons afield to use as their inventers/builders originally intended for them to be used.

Congratulations Rick!! Great buck, taken with a truly great rifle. That has to be a fantastic feeling.

I would also be curios to learn more about how the wad is attached to the PP.

Curtis

Nice. Please explain for me how you do your wad.
Based off the original loading instructions.
“Bullet with wooden plug, papered and wad attached”
I’ve used a wooden plug - just don’t anymore.
Inside the case in one of the canisters are many leather punched donuts - I just use a lubed felt donut wad. The pigtail of the patch holds it in place.

Went on a search and this was the only Double I seen that was used.

Man that’s cool. I’ve been upgrading mine and will use here shortly. It’s a Kodiak 58. Nothing better than a fast second shot, if needed 1C24D895-203A-4C98-BEAE-291F6C50605B.jpeg

Don't know much about the doubles but it sure is pretty. Most of these new school wimp hunters these days would be embarrassed to carry afield something 10% of that beauty's age. I could see some skinny jean wearing wanna be hunter saying " Where do you mount the scope? ".....oh and nice buck....i was distracted by the lock and hammers 🤤

First of all, congrats on an awesome buck. That being said, the best part is that you harvested it with an awesome rifle. I have been taking my dad's custom .54 with a patch and round ball out a number of days but never got an opportunity to take a shot at a deer with it. I have been wanting one of the Pedersoli Kodiaks (doesn't equal yours, but the best I can do without spending a fortune). Personally, when I purchase any firearm I want to use it, and in most cases that means hunt with it.

By the way Africadouble, that is the same gun I have been contemplating, or at least I think it is (Pedersoli)? I also have that same calendar, now replaced with the same for 2022.

I would certainly buy a classic old one like the OP has… This Pedersoli Kodiak is from 1996
I am very lucky it shoots extremely well, and accurately. Prb or Real 445gr with both water quenched to 8-Bhn
Just made a speed loader for it with caps under the Rubber band.

Got some good Swiss 2F and with the Express sights.. plus peep I can get out to 125yards

At 10lbs is a bit much, yet it’s also worth its weight in Gold when ya need a second shot.
