Will do Grouse. As of right now it sounds like a plan. I'll give you a holler later in the week to confirm. Thanks and take care buddy.

grizz, you asked about swabbing between shots and I dont THINK it was answered...

when shooting 777 at the range you should be swabbing between each shot and allowing barrel cool etc. I used a wet patch and a couple of dry patches.

when shooting 777 in the field AND you are only expecting 1-3 shots max, then dont worry with the swabbing.

or you could shoot bh209 and not swab ecer again :)

Swab between shots if you are not already doing it, reduce your powder load to about 80 grains of 777 and work up. Also use an bore button.

I'm sorry for butting in, but what's a bore button?

Nugent,

A bore button is a heavy felt over powder wad saturated with bore butter, it acts as a gasket between the powder and the bullet. There are other wads that I prefer, such as the vegetable fiber gasket wads for shooting conicals. These wads provide a better seal, protect the base of the bullet, usually get a little increased velocity without leading up your bore.

Here is a link to the bore buttons.

These are the vegetable fiber wads, they look like a gasket and can be had in .030" or .060" thickness for several calibers. I prefer the .518" diameter, .060" thick wads for my .50 calibers. With these wads, 777 loose powder, and conicals, you can shoot til the cows come home without swabbing. I prefer these to the bore buttons, not only for price, but for performance too. Another plus, is I don't have to introduce bore butter into my rifle. They are cheaper at Cabelas, but last I knew Cabelas was getting them from Sage Outfitters, both companies being from Sidney, NE. Both links provided, scroll down to the bottom for sizes. These are obviously a by-product from a gasket manufacturer, they are probably the holes punched out for 1/2" bolts, .518" in the case of the .50 cal, either in .030" or .060" thickness.
