I will be ordering some 300 grain Fury ST2’s after Christmas. I have always went with 250 or 275 grain bullets but want to try 300’s. I have a Rem 700 build with one of Hankin’s .45 Remage Brux barrels with a brake and HIS ignition. I understand the max load with the 275’s is 65 grains of H4198. What would the max SAFE load be for a 300 grain bullet? I have both H4198 and N120 for powders to work with.

I’ve shot 60 grains of 4198 and I don’t remember the exact trace data I took it from but want to say it was pushing the 40k pressure limit that Hank claimed for the barrels.
I’m sure GM54 will swing through shortly and tell you exactly.

Using 4198 i bet the pressure increase from 275gr to 300gr is minimal. Start at 59-60gr and go upto 63gr and you should be fine.

N120 is another animal. 10% less than 4198 and maybe a couple more grains when going upto a 300gr. IIRC 55gr of N120 and a 300gr was right around 42-44kpsi. Shot that load a few times in my small shank Savage. I would say dont go over 58gr of N120....Cant remember the speed but i think it was almost 2500fps for 55gr and ignition seemed really good.
