All muzzleloaders are designed to load from the muzzle and most are built to
handle black powder or the Pyrodex type "blackpowder" substitutes. It would be dangerous to use smokeless powder in them as the pressures are generally greater and could damage the gun and/or the shooter.
Some muzzleloaders are specifically designed to also use smokeless, ie the Savage ML . SMI and a few others also but you have to have the correct guns to do that. Really they are apples and oranges, they are not the same or interchangeable.
Some States will not permit smokeless muzzleloaders. They are nice where allowed as they are cleaner and generally some faster.
