When is your hunting season?

Wow, those are high elevations compared to Massachusetts. Anyone have any idea as to how vertical elevation might affect bullet drop? i.e., if you sight-in at an elevation of 1,000 feet above sea level, will you need to re-sight your gun to be on at 11,000 feet above sea level?

I believe you would have to resight in. For me, my shooting range sits at 7,200 feet. Where i hunt its anywhere from 6 to 10k + feet. Sometimes a few thousand feet higher.

That would be interesting to see how a rifle sighted in at 1,000 feet would shoot when at 8,000+

I will be doing a majority of my hunting here on the Navy Bases in Va Bch. Season starts 1 Oct and runs through the end of November and then 3 weeks of late muzzleloader season in Dec. This year we are also having a late season to try and reduce the heard population on the Air Station so we will get to hunt there from 1 Jan - 28 Feb also. We are using DPOP tags for all antlerless deer we take during the late season. Scouting starts next week and I am planning on hanging a couple of stands then as well. October can not get here soon enough!!!

I've got tags for the first and second firearm season which is Nov. 20,21 and 22. Second season is Dec 3, 4, 5, and 6th and tags for the muzzleloader only season is Dec. 11, 12, and 13th. :!:
Theres a late winter season also but I can't get those tags until mid Dec. I have 2 archery tags for the entire state which runs fron 1 OCT to the 14th of Jan. 10. Don't know if archery hunting is going to be possible this year. My time is all in my CVA ACCURA, 295GR. POWERBELT H/P's and my AAP GOLD Powder.

Have a great season everyone and remember, safety first :!: :!: :!:

whitetail fever,

Sounds like the bases will be a good place to hunt. Do they limit the number of hunters?

hawslayer,

Nice long season full of tags! I'll bet the archers have the woods to themselves in January.

Marty,

If the winter isn't unbearable, there is a last season tag for some time in DEC and JAN. I'm not sure of the dates yet. Knowing the winters up here in IL I would think you have to freeze your butt off out there in JAN. :!:  :!:

Dec 14 thru 22nd ML in Southern Tier NY State

vietnam71 Good Hunting to all!

Are you just choosing to hunt the southern tier of NY, or is your ML permit specifically for that region of NY?

I live down in the Southern Tier? Hudson Valley and have friend who has property. I used to travel upstate. We have traveled to Montana for Elk and Mule Deer as well as Colorado Elk hunting.

Although I got altitude sickness in Colorado had to be taken off the mountain. Once I got below 10,000 ft I was ok. Looked like I had Parkinson's disease before they got me down. Pretty scary.

Harvested a nice 5x4 Mule deer up at Blacktail Point near Hamilton Montana.

We have seen some a nice 8pt - 2 6pt and a couple 4 pts in our area during Bow season.

Good Hunting Marty!

Our gun season was last week, for 9 days, but I was toting my ML. Our ML season starts the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and runs for 3 weeks. Archery season starts the middle of September, December.

Your gun season starts early out there in Minn. My gun season starts after Thanksgiving here in MA and runs for two week. I will be toting my ML during my gun season as well. After my gun season I have two weeks of ML. I essentially will have 4 weeks to hunt with my ML :)

:D 8)

If I figured it out right...........58 hours and I'll be in the deer woods with my accura :!:  :!:  :!:

RIFLE (bucks & does- can use muzzleloader): was November 14-24 statewide.
RIFLE (Antlerless ONLY- can use ML): was November 25- December 6 certain counties.
MUZZLELOADER (bucks & does): December 19-29 statewide
**Only ONE buck with minimum 4 points on one side can be harvested in most counties. Still only ONE buck with no antler restriction in other counties**

I used my centerfire (30-06) to harvest my one buck. Now have two antlerless tags purchased. If I use those, I can go purchase more (UNLIMITED!!!)

Ohio has a few options,

Early season on three selected areas is always the last full week of October.

Gun season, including muzzle loaders, the week after Thanksgiving and one weekend two weeks later.

Muzzle loader this year was Jan 9-12.
