Thank you for helping me with my difficulties, when i first tried to use o-ring under primer.
You're welcome. I actually thought about looking into a patent, using the o-ring at one time. I never really looked into it as far as digging through patents, or consulting with a patent attorney. I ended up just giving the idea away to help a guy out at Metrics Unlimited that was making breech plugs for the H&R/NEF Huntsman's and Sidekicks. Great shooting rifles with their Green Mountain barrels, but the worst ignition 209 primer carriers ever.
Those MU breech plugs needed something and I had that something to make them essentially blowback free. I had been using the idea in a couple other breech plugs I had for several months prior. One was a custom I had done right after I realized what would work and what would not work for igniting Blackhorn 209, the other was a Breech plug I had Ben Hubbard make up with his Mag-Spark 209 nipple.
I posted about it here when I was testing the MU prototype plug. Then I gave the idea away to everyone here and Western Powders. I was just trying to help out the ones having trouble igniting Blackhorn 209 with leaky primer pockets in their breech plugs.
I used the o-ring breech plugs for hunting that previous fall of 2008, and they worked great. One other added benefit you get with the o-ring that you will never completely get with static metal shims or headspaced primers, is total waterproof through the ignition/breech end for hunting, as long as the primer is installed. There is no denying that this system works. I've done it on all the platforms, except the Knight KRB7. I did, along with a few others help a couple guys figure out how to make it work in their KRB7's, along with some spring mods to allow them to reliably ignite Blackhorn 209. I think one was 22 Hornet, and the other was Shawn? This was like 10 years ago, CRS?
The o-rings work great on the Tip-Ups and Drop Blocks. They can also work on the Knight Bolt Rifles with the NFPJ Conversions if you get the bottom of the primer pocket right and the headspace right. I have one that has been doing it for over 10 years now.
