400 grain Northern Precision elk freight trains this is 85 grains of Black Horn by weight 84 grains had three and a hole and two just off the group so I bumped up a little bit going to shoot a little bit hotter later in the day the backing on the Target is tore the group is a little bit tighter than the picture appears pretty good for big bullet the recoil is less than a 275 grain medium smokeless load recoil is not bad.
Nice shooting, that bullet & load deff is workin

Both bullets really like the twist and black horn I'd like to shoot it in a 8 and 1/2 lb rifle with the baffle brake down the road

I looked at shelves full of BP stuff in my gun room but did not open the safe, with two "bum" hands I got depressed. Due to an accident last year my thumb and first finger joints will not bend on my shooting hand. So far the surgery has not helped and the prognosis is not clear. No way can I hold, let alone shoot a BP (or other) handgun. Last year during our ML season my wife had to load and clean my rifle. Future shooting is questionable but hope is not gone.

Got some Parker 40cal hyra con bullets and getting ready to sit down and knurl them.100 of them.I borrowed a couple of files from my brother so I will be busy for a little while.
Wow...that's a lot to knurl at once. Are you knurling for sabot or full bore?

I did a couple hundred 200 grain .40 cal XTPs the other day. I'm planning on sighting the Patriot 45 with the XTPs, then shooting Fury 225 grain numbers in earnest and for hunting. I also shoot the 200 grain XTPs in my Kodiak just because they're so darned accurate in the gun and because the 209 charge is such that they don't do a whale of a lot of damage on deer. Knurling is actually a fun little job. Have a cold one and listen to the music and knurl away. As they say, time flies when you're having fun and if its muzzy related it can't help but be fun, can it?

New?
Just picked up this Curly Red Maple stock 95% done. I'm going to do some inletting for a patch box.

Nose Cap, TC Hawken barrel, Patchwork, Barrel Wedge, Buttplate , Trigger Set and Lock from ebay. All parts just bought from time to time. Going to place a Williams FP Hawken rear tang sight on it.

Any suggestions for this older Army vet with 59yr old eyes for a good front globe sight I can use in low light and accuracy?

Many thanks!

I hated to go there but I went to Cabela/BP in hopes of finding what I need. Big ol waste of time. I knew I should have went on to my local gun shop. I knew by the time I would get there the local shop would be closed. So, I just ordered some Warne 30mm permanent low rings online.

I promised a fellar some FREE .440's round balls today and noticed I only had 10-12 left from the patch shooting video last week. Out comes the lead pot and I did get some poured to send off.

However...the lead was VERY slow coming out of the spout. I allowed it to totally drain out and cool off. I took it apart and found the drain was totally clogged. I took the correct size drill bit and hand drilled it thru the spout and cleaned it totally out. Since I know how it works now...next time I'll take off one long bolt and hand drill it in place saving lots of time tearing it down and putting it back together. I haven't tested it yet, but, it looks like brand new ( used ) melting pot.
Here is stock picture of what the pot looks like:

Trader,

That is the best looking stock work I've seen in awhile!

Would you mind sharing your stain and finish used? I've got a Curly Red Maple stock blank and would like similar results.

Thank you!

And I am yet, an even older Army Vet (poetry) @77..Aqua Fortis from track of the Wolf, cheap hot air gun, sandpaper and steel wool plus copious amounts of patience Just follow the instructions and don't give up

Thank you Trader!

Yes sir. You are the 2nd person to recommend Aqua-Fortis. After seeing your results cobined with Tru-Oil, that seals the deal for me.

Indeed, you have 20more on me at 59. After Jump School I was stationed at Ft. Campbell.
160th NIGHTSTALKERS. Honorably Discharged in 1992.

Thank you for your service and willingness to help another person out. I'll send you my results when I'm finished.

Trying to catch the final rays of the rare sunshine thru the evening window. #3 steel wool and paste floor wax took off the too shiny. Got the 32" X 1-1/8" false muzzle bbl ready to brown tomorrow if I can get the woodstove hot enough. Unless I can do a switch bbl it'll be a bench gun. Measures a tight 58 but probably a 56, dunno yet. Really rough casting on the H&A action so it may take a few. Hell I still need to order 50 and 54 cal balls and patching for the guns that are done. With illness and a long winter I didn't get to trap or shoot any. My friends say I build'um better than I can shoot'um...How true!! LOL
