Ok guys need a scope for my inline CVA Buckhorn 209. My budget is $100, not much I know but I want to spend it on something decent.

IMO, the best scope you can get for that money right now is a Sightron S1 3-9x40 on closeout at swfa.com They are solidly built, very clear, great eye relief, and a lifetime warranty. Right now on clearance for $79 if I recall. Normally about $50 or $60 more. I have several on my ML's for a number of years, never had an issue. They are WAY better than most of the scopes you can find under $100, imo.

I checked and I can't find that one anywhere for less than $135. Can you post a link?

Try this one: http://swfa.com/

Once there pick the riflescope menu on the left side and then sightron under the product category.

Nice decent scope at a good price at 79.95 but plan on another 13 or so for shipping. Still under your budget.

I know it's slightly more, but what about this? If not this, than maybe we increase the budget to $160. Also need to know what kind of scope mount I should use. Thanks guys you rock.

IMO the Redfield Revenge is an excellent scope and I would get it long before a Sightron... Tried a couple of Sightron's but really did not work for me...

The Revenge is a Leupold Product, but it is built in the Phillipines. The glas is awesome...

Go to the end of my post here - I talk about the scope a bit there...

Check this Web page out and make sure you look at the video in the lower right of the page...

Here is the scope you are looking at... bit of a better price

But, really look at this one built for a Muzzleloder with a Range finder

The important thing is keep track of the eye relief. I like minimum 3.75 inches and 4 inches better.

The redfield revenge is a nice scope for what they cost and very similar in construction and quality to the sightron. Personally, I would buy the sightron over it, especially given the price. Either of those are miles ahead of your typical inexpensive scopes...simmons, bushnell, tasco, konus, bsa...etc. My .02

I really have to stop looking at scopes, lol. I am finding myself wanting to spend more and more. I can hear the snickering from my wife as I get more expensive. So I have looked at the Revenge series by Redfield and I am impressed, and it is a very viable option. That being said I dug a little further and found myself checking out the Revolution series by Redfield. I really like the Made in America aspect as I am a huge supporter of employing Americans. I also watched a few Factory to Field episodes on YouTube and they toured the Redfield factory and showed how they were made. I can say I am now highly impressed with the Redfield American made Revolution. They also seem to be only a bit more expensive. So here's what I found and I'd like your opinion's.

Redfield Revolution model: 67080 4-Plex 2-7x33
http://www.manventureoutpost.com/produc ... dPlex.html

Redfield Revolution model: 67085 Accu-Range 2-7x33
http://www.manventureoutpost.com/produc ... cuRng.html

Redfield Revolution model: 67090 4-Plex 3-9x40
http://www.manventureoutpost.com/produc ... dPlex.html

Redfield Revolution model: 67095 Accu-Range 3-9x40
http://www.manventureoutpost.com/produc ... cuRng.html

Now I understand I have basically doubled my $100 budget, but that "Made in America" sits heavy with me. Some guys don't care, but I do. Anyway, what do you think.

I also need advice on Scope mounts and rings, what mount works best on a CVA Buckhorn 209?

Also, not to sound like a complete newb, but is a 2-7x33 all that different from a 3-9x40? Is it worth the extra money? Thanks again guys.

Also what is the difference between the 4-Plex and the Accu-Range?

Revolution is nice. Plex is a regular duplex reticle, the accu has a ranging reticle for long range shooting. Personally I like duplex reticles best. The others (to me) have way too much clutter. With a ML most folks limit would be 150yds, which can easily be accomplished with a std reticle and no clutter. What YOU like is up to you.

My choice of those scopes would be the 3-9x40, however the 2-7 would work just fine plus its a little lighter and more compact.

Check out optics planet, they have free shipping and usually offer kits (rings/and or bases) with scopes as an option. I don't know what to tell you on rings and bases for your particular gun, I mostly use weaver type on my ML's.

Edit: here you go

Keep in mind there is a big difference between the Accu-Range Reticle of the Revolution and the Accu-Ranger Reticle of the Revenge...

This is the Revolution Accu Range Reticle... It does not offer the range finding information that the Accu Ranger Reticle does...

These pictures might show the the basic differences in the Revenge scope..

This is the basic scope....

This is the 4 Plex Reticule

This is the Accu Ranger Reticule

This is how you view and bracket the animal to find the range...

And the final picture shows what the markings indicat

This basically the same scope as the Revolution, but the Revolution does not offer the Accu Range Reticule

So lets talk price smarts. Is it smarter to choose the Sightron 3-9x40 @ $79.99 closeout, or the Redfield Revenge or Revolution series priced $135-$199?

I have to rule myself out of that one...! cuz I already know which one I would get... and that also excludes the Revolution because it does not have the Ranger Reticle system. If the Revolution had the Ranger system then I would go with it first..

Does the Sightron have a lifetime warranty?

Bottom line... they are all good scopes and I'm sure you would be happy with any of them. Honestly between them there is not much difference at all. All have good eye relief, quality construction, nice glass, and a lifetime warranty.

I had a Sightron SI 3-9x40 on a Knight LK rifle. I sold it. Enough said. I replaced it with a cheap $19.99 Simmons 2.5x20mm scope. And I will say, I liked that Simmons a lot better.

There are lots of low dollar scopes out there you could get and use, until you save enough or decide you want better. I will endorse a Simmons Pro Diamond 4x32mm. A very low dollar scope, but I have them on several rifles and have yet to break one or knock it out of whack. And believe me, I try to bust a scope when I first get them. When they are new, I want them to fail.

Also the kind of scope to consider should be in direct correlation with the kind of shooting you will encounter. If all your shots are close, what good is something to judge range? If you hunt when distance is not a concern even a straight power scope will get the job done. And normally for a lot less.

I know many people hate cheep scopes. I am one that just hates to spend more on the scope then I did on the rifle.

X2 I couldn't agree more..

I will add a few more cents to Cayuga's comments. I too like my inexpensive Simmons 8-point 3-9x. I paid $25 from Sportsmans Guide a few years ago. well made and usable in any legal shooting light.

if you have most shots < 100 yds, consider a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot. $83 on amazon.com. no eye relief issues at all.
