looking to get some Barnes expanders for my accura and optima 45s. Any suggestions or a good bullet for whitetails. Shooting 200 hornadys and ssts. Don’t like the way they preform but the shoot great. 1 inche groups at 100 yards. Looking for suggestions.

I used them in my sml this past season. 275gr xpb @2275mv took 5 deer with them. They opened up perfect, one bullet recovered that went lengthway through a quartering to deer the bullet was right under the hide in the offside ham. A 200 or 250gr may. be better at smoker speeds. You may be able to load these bullets right out of the box sabot-less. I use a .060 veggie wad.

I moved this topic here. The other section has another purpose.

If you are considering paying that much for the Barnes i would suggest looking at Fury Custom bullets instead. They are a bonded jacketed bullet. He has a 225gr StarTip that should be ok in a 1-28 twist. $44/50

The Barnes 40cal 195gr is a good bullet but ive never got them to shoot as well as the SSTs. Good enough for deer as long as you are not shooting long range. The BC also is rather poor compared to a SST. The Barnes 195gr also expands best with a good amount of speed which it will shed fast at longer ranges.

The other option is the 40cal Lehighs or Bloodlines in the 185gr-195gr range. I think the 195gr is a copper bullet. The 185gr is a brass. BC is nothing to rave about but they should work better than Barnes as the fps starts to drop. Close to the same price as Barnes too.
