So, I didn't know what Lane Tubes were, or where to get them. When I Googled Lane Tubes I got pages and pages of porn sites. After I added "for black powder" I got an eBay site with what I assume are the tubes you guys were talking about. Y'all need to be a little more specific!
Oops, sorry. I prefer the bh209 tubes and cases over Lanes tubes. just my preference tho15890537827594287389193973903215.jpg

I sent Mr. Lane an e-mail, and will be purchasing 100 of the short, 5ml tubes next week via USPS Money Order, since I don't do PayPal. I cannot recall the last time I wrote a check.

At $40, including shipping, that is only 40 cents per tube, which I think is reasonable.

You'll like the tubes and they are water/moisture tight.

I tested a couple different tubes by filling them with common flour and added a few .177cal pellets for weight. Placed them in a container under water and left them.
The Lane's tubes were perfect. The others failed.

No doubt they are better tubes. If me and my ML stuff is underwater for more than afew seconds (or at all) I have way more to worry about than wet powder. Im not talking hunting conditions, i went in the water to my chest for a few seconds and that ended the hunt for the day, but range trips dont even expose me to rain let alone submersion. I have Lanes tubes i just prefer blackhorn and knockoff tubes. They store and work better for me.

Are most people here at MM that weigh their charges, using the plastic tubes from Lanes, or lab-grade borosilicate glass vials with plastic screw-top lids?

Will the Lanes tubes fit in a plastic 25-round, shotshell box?

Thanks
I have about 200 lab sample tubes 15ml with rubber stoppers that hold 120gV they’re plastic and had an expired date on them so the hospital was throwing them out. I also have about 500 smaller ones with screw top lids that hold the 40 or so grains I shoot out of my ML10II. They will actually only hold about 60gV I would think they would fit in a shot shell container. I just put them in a ziplock bag with a piece of paper that says what the charge in them is. I do notice I get a little static cling happening so I bought some dryer sheets to take care of that.

I think they may be 5ml instead of 15ml they’re BD Vacutainer’s. There is a grundle more there, some glass, some with some type of serum in the bottom that could be rinsed out. Might have to purchase the rest of them via the asset recovery auction. Our plumber bought 8 pallets of storage bins for $1.17. So I’m pretty sure I could get them cheap😁

Ive got screw top tempered glass tubes from a chemical /labratory supply house . Ive already dropped them onto cement with no damage so it looks like their plenty tough . They dont leak either . Wish i could recall which one it was !!! Duh !!! Just about the same size as a 3" 12ga shell . Holds more than i can shoot currently . Definately worth looking for if somebody is interested in a static free tube . Fit nice in my possibles bag and quiet enough too . Cap is some sort of tough plastic/bakelite resin with liner . Acetone wont affect it , i tried .

Okay, so the yellow capped ones are 10ml. I have 200. The orange capped are 5ml I have 500. Both are water tight. The yellows are 4-1/4 long so they won’t fit a shot shell holder I bet.

Those would be real nice i bet with Larrybud's find on post #15 for range use . That combo would be really neat on a bench !!! Very tidy and handy too . Darn nice tubes Stacy !!! Especially for a Savage and bh209 . Could they hold bullets too ?? Many uses right there......

I use the 209 tubes to. I load them the morning I go to shoot. I store them in a waterproof plastic box with silica packs in there for good measure. They're great ! I do have to use some kind of funnel for the smaller calibers but that's fine.74812.jpeg

It came with the tubes. I'm pretty sure I got the whole thing from Amazon. I bought two of them. I use one for FFF and the other for FF. I have them both marked and in another plastic waterproof ammo can style box. It's light weight and really does the job.Screenshot_20200511-111956.png

Brainoverload!!! Do I need to put my projectile, wad, and powder in an airtight tube to put in an airtight carrying case inside a plastic bag if I am going to the rainy woods for a month long deer camp?

Can you tell I'm a newbie?

It happens to everyone at the beginning. Info overload. Ya gotta keep yer powder dry. Theres lots of ways to do that. How you do it tho is up to you. Lane tubes, bh209 tubes, a prescription bottle, ziploc bag(probably not durable enuff), whatever. You may have what you need already laying around your house.

Keep all your stuff dry. But don't overcomplicate it.

You need to practice the way youre going to hunt to make sure its gonna work for you. Everyone does it differently. When i started out i tried to prepare for every possibility. I was lugging atound so much junk I could barely get to actual hunting. I figured out what isnt likely and stopped prepping for that stuff.

Look, there's guys out there making preloaded paper cartridges and there's guys who have bullets in one pocket and a powder flask in the other. It doesn't have to be complicated. I want my powder to be dry and usable even after I store it for months. I also want to know how big a powder charge is at a glance. I don't want to be fiddling around with ball lube on the firing line. I hate looking for stuff and more then that I hate going home early because I couldn't fix a problem. I have a system that works for me. It may not be the system you choose. There's no wrong or right systems, just safe and unsafe. Pick your loading and shooting method. Creat your own (although it's probably been done already) mostly, have fun. If you really want to feel your head explode, go over to the thread about bullet lubrications. OMG........KIMG1627.JPG
