A scout scope is a good set up.there are some downfalls other than just looking untraditionally ugly .the ocular lens is further away from your face. it can be like looking through a dirty window if you get dirt, dew, debris etc. on it. lenscaps may help if you're in a Dusty environment. Also if you have the Sun at your back at the wrong angle it can reflect in your face and make it hard to see the reticle ,being that it is mounted so far forward. that being said, I wouldn't call it a deal breaker at all. it is a lot like using a duplex reticle Red Dot with variable magnification. Target acquisition is extremely fast ,The vortex scout is it 2x7 vplex reticle .so that means that the radical is super simple, second focal plane ,with low magnification settings .it is also small and light ,which is optimal for hunting. If mounted and applied correctly it is one hell of a tool.
