I'm not new to muzzleloading but this is new to me...
A friend of mine gave me some hand cast bullets today. He told me that they were .50 cal. I've never seen anything like 'em. Here's the thing that makes this really strange.... I measured 'em & weighed 'em tonight and they're not .50 .
They measure .680" diameter and .635 long. I think that they'll friction fit into the barrel of my current build.. .670 canoe gun. It seems very odd to me that I was just handed a couple dozen bullets that are just about perfect for a gun that I'm currently building for which no-one to my knowledge makes a bullet. Being so short they may just stabilize well from a smooth bore. They average in the neighborhood of 442 grains with very little variation. An interesting feature is a solid band which divides the hollow base into two equal cavities. Hard to describe so I've attached some pics.
Have you ever seen anything like these?

.

They are shotgun slugs. I forget who makes the mold (Lee? Lyman?...) but they are for handloading slugs. They may work in your "canoe" gun, but the leading will be a big pain imo. I'd stick with patched round balls. Have fun.

Ahh! Now that makes perfect sense! Thanks for clearing up my little mystery.
