I am looking to try the .402" 225 gr Fury Star Tip 2P in a HSB sabot. 55 gr to 57 gr of H4198 or IMR4198 seems to be the most common. I am not opposed to duplex loads. What are your favorite loads?

It is for a Remington 700 MLS with a Pacnor Modified Sendro .45 1:22 twist barrel with a Savage style breechplug using Federal 209A Primers.

57 grains of IMR 4198 and the 225 40 cal in a light blue sabot is the most consistent load in all of my 20 twists and 18s I sure recommend you try it in that 22 and I absolutely believe that shooting 56 or 55 is a waste of time go straight to the 57, might be able to go slightly higher but not much ,I bet your accuracy will be at 57.

If it was me, l would try some N110, Maine wool wads, HLBS, and the 225gr bullets. Put a knurl on the bullet. Start around 30gr and work up to around 35gr. or maybe more.

How clean does IMR 4198 burn in that load?

That load burns pretty clean for me,, I would probably rather have H than imr if I could choose,, I've never really had any problems with imr shooting dirty like reloader 7 and again that particular load 57 grains and 225 Fury, just shoots in everything I put it in and to everyone I recommend it to, if there was such thing as a pet load like a cartridge has, that is definitely a pet load for me,,,, Captain Todd's doing some pretty amazing stuff with it!

Back in 2009 I built my first smokeless .45 on a Remington 700 action. I tested H-4198, VV N-120 and Reloader #7 powders. Using Barnes 195 gr. .40 cal. and Hornady .40 SST with the Harvester light blue sabot. I could shoot 62 gr. of the H-4198 I shot 66 gr. of N-120 and 73 gr. of the Reloader#7 The N-120 was the fastest@ 3000 fps and the most accurate. I had built 700 ML for my uncle and set him up with the H-4198 load for years using the Hornady 200 gr SST That load is plenty accurate but, he lost a couple deer using that bullet. When Pittman came out with the .40 cal. 225 gr AccuMax bullet I switched him over to that bullet using 72 gr of Reloader #7 powder @ 2675 fps. This is a deadly set up. I think the Reloader #7 powder is the easiest powder on a sabot you can use. The 225 gr Fury bullet should shoot great with the same load. I would get the knurled ones.

You don't have to buy the knurled bullets. You may not need them knurled, but it won't hurt anything at all. You can always knurl them yourself between two files.
