I took my Traditions Crockett rifle to our local monthly shooting match. I did rather well if I say so myself.

The first two targets were shot at 25 yards. Originally the guy putting on the shoot said 8 shots in the top target which is used for Archery. Then apparently changed it to six at the last minute. I told him I didn’t get that memo. They threw out my worst two hits. The Wagon Wheel had twelve spokes we were supposed to shoot but he thought there were only eleven. You don’t have to be smart to Sponsor a match, just be safe!

We moved the stands up to fifteen yards. All remaining targets were five shots each. He brought the sides from Rainier Beer 12-packs. I didn’t even know they still made that! We had to shoot the vowels or the smaller loop in the R. Next was the Bug Slat. Those were some lean ketchup packets as they refused to bleed! I’ve actually made them post these sideways. That way our primitive sights won’t line up so easily. Lastly, we posted a small Splatter Bullseye. My rifle really liked that lower right-hand corner of the center!

We won’t get the results until next month’s Newsletter. I’m hoping to at least be in the top Three! All shooting was done Off-hand. The only thing that bothered me is when folks are done, they tend to have a conversation behind you which affects your concentration. That accounted for a few misses on the Wagon Wheel!

My load was 20 grains of Goex 3F BP, .015 Pillow Ticking with Bumbling Bear Grease Lube, and a .310 Round Ball. All in all, a great little rifle!!!!

Thanks for looking!

Walt

Not near as much fun as BP Addict but yesterday I sent my check off to Snapbang for those 260gr Cheap Shots he has. Then cleaned up the two Omega stocks I got from Sharpshooter and scoped/mounted two barrels in them. After that I cleaned up a spare Vortek barrel I got from Gunbusters and found it fit great on one of my rifles so mounted a cheap Traditions scope on it to use as a backup barrel. At some point I am going to have to sight these in! Then i started to look for my new lead pot but lord knows what the heck I did with it (CRS). Kept finding my old one! Maybe today I'll get lucky and find it and the big cast iron pot I seem to have hid from myself.

Cool, sounds like a lot of fun. I wish there were things like that to do for inlines or traditional MLs shooting conicals instead of PRB's for guys like me that aren't into PRB shooting period but shoot both inline & traditional ML's & pistols with conicals.

After reading all the threads on loc-tighting rings and bases I went o town and bought a bottle of fingernail hardener.I did not do the rings but I did do the rail mounts on all 3 of my muzzleloaders.Glad it is not deer season because that stuff stinks.I have both my doors opened to let out the smell.Going to put them out side for awhile since it is sunny and dry out there.

Ordered some new gun flints from Heritage Products.
I wanted French amber but clicked the wrong spot and ordered French black instead. Oops.
The flints I got from Track of the Wolf had quite a lot of humpbacks.
Not sure what method I could use to sand or file down some of the humpbacks. As they are now, they won't tighten up good in hammer.

Weighed out a few charges of N110 to try. And then I got a really wild hair and dug out some Swiss (yes, real BLACK POWDER). I even though for just a moment about weighing out a few charges with, yes, a digital scale. But I didn’t….
